the introduction to our online Advanced Materials and Additive Manufacturing MSc video transcript

Hi. My name is Dan Garner and I’m the programme lead for the MSc Advanced Materials and Additive Manufacturing course at the University of Derby.

We developed this programme because the Additive Manufacturing industry is one of the fastest growing manufacturing sectors and there’s a real need for more highly trained staff in this field.

Studying at masters level will develop your existing analytical skills and challenge you to evaluate complex engineering problems in order that you develop and apply effective solutions.

The knowledge of 3D printing and Additive Manufacturing will prepare you for a career as either a designer, manufacturing engineer or an engineering manager with a solid understanding of the technologies, materials and strategies needed for effective implementation.

The programme has been accredited by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining in line with UK Engineering Council’s educational requirements for chartership. Therefore, on completion of the programme, you’ll be well prepared for continuing professional development heading towards chartered status.

Online learning provides you with the flexibility to learn while balancing your work and life pressures. The curriculum has been developed to be interactive and enables collaboration with other distance learners and so creates an integrated learning experience.

The programme is ideal for those with an existing mechanical and manufacturing degrees and, for those with qualifications in other STEM subjects [Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics], there is an additional introductory module to provide the necessary background knowledge.
