As a UK or international student, this online Public and Environmental Health MSc course will allow you to study the underpinning subjects of public and environmental health, including food safety, occupational health and environmental protection set in a global context that can be applied as you learn. You will also be able to study a range of optional modules such as Global Environmental Health and Public Health Issues and Environmental Pollution and Management Strategies that will allow you to put your knowledge into practice in international context.
The MSc Public and Environmental Health programme will take you on a journey that will equip you with a broad understanding of the inter-relationship between environmental hazards, risk assessment and the impact on public health and wellbeing. Progression through the programme will aid you to develop critical thinking and analysis skills, culminating in the ability to think strategically across the breadth of the public and environmental health sector. It will give you the ability to undertake primary data collection, and to critically evaluate the likely impacts on public health and wellbeing, with a deep conceptual understanding that enables you to evaluate in a clear, concise way.
You will learn how to critically evaluate new strategies, identify a local community’s public health needs and oversee the implementation of appropriate public and environmental health interventions. The transferable skills gained will prepare you to work with a vast range of organisations such as non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the delivery of community based projects, particularly in developing countries in such areas as Africa, the Caribbean or Asia.
A course aligned to the CIEH requirements
This course follows the requirements of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Curriculum 2011 and has specifically designed modules with an international focus.
As well as delivering the core knowledge associated with public and environmental health, the programme is very practical in its approach. We believe that an essential element of gaining competence as a practitioner in public and environmental health is by being exposed to real life situations both through the work place and through real life scenarios. The ability to critically evaluate public and environmental health interventions underpins much of your learning throughout the programme.
