Starting January 2018 (subject to validation*)
Currently one of only a few online distance learning courses covering both occupational health and safety and environmental management in the UK, this online MSc Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Management (SHEM)* course will enable you to demonstrate excellence in both occupational health and safety and environmental management practice as well as teach you to adopt a critical, evidence-based approach to these areas of practice.
This course aims to prepare you as a practitioner who can demonstrate critical competence in your field of practice, make informed decisions regarding the most appropriate intervention and communicate your judgements in the most appropriate way. You will also learn to make critical judgements with regard to both workplace health and safety and business impact on the environment.
Through studying this course you will be consolidating your existing understanding of the environment and the workplace. You will develop critical practice skills that will enable you to more fully understand your area of practice and to implement a more strategic approach that extends beyond the immediate stressor. You will also develop critical risk evaluation techniques that will allow you to make informed decisions and judgements as to the most appropriate course of action having regard to health and wellbeing, sustainability and business acumen.
Completion of the PG Diploma and/or MSc will result in eligibility for membership of both the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA). The course is also practice focused, and will include simulations and complex multifaceted case studies.
