Entrepreneurs are being invited to attend the Derby University Network of Entrepreneurs (DUNE) launch event on Thursday November 6, 2014 at the iPro Stadium in Derby between 4:30-7:30pm.

The event is a great opportunity for leading local, national and international innovators to meet University of Derby students, to give them the benefit of their expertise and knowledge. Seventy entrepreneurs and forty students have already booked. DUNE will also create an awareness of the support mechanisms which the University and its supporters can offer to entrepreneurs.

Derby students who are considering starting up a business, or who have an entrepreneurial spirit, will be given the chance to gain support and mentoring. They'll also gain valuable networking and interpersonal skills, and knowledge of real world business set-up.

Professor Keith Horton, Dean of the College of Business at the University of Derby will launch DUNE at the event, together with Derby graduate Brett Butcher, Founder of Datapath Ltd and Entrepreneur in Residence at the University, who will follow with an introduction to the concept.

Talking about the network, Professor Keith Horton said: "The College of Business is enormously proud of its relationship with the business world and delighted to be launching DUNE. It will provide a valuable networking opportunity with some of our leading entrepreneurs from the city and region sharing their experiences with our students, as well as with one another.

"The University's students have a considerable array of knowledge and capabilities that can benefit businesses locally, nationally and beyond. Learning directly from successful entrepreneurs can only benefit them further as they prepare to launch their own careers."

Brett Butcher added: "When I was a student here all those years ago, I was lucky that my family knew people who could guide me, and we still made our share of mistakes. The idea of DUNE came while working with the University, as I thought there must be other entrepreneurial people out there who would be willing to give a few minutes of their time to answer the occasional question, or meet up and discuss an idea with a student.

"Students get to quiz and meet people who have done it and got the T-shirt. The entrepreneurs get to help without the strain of repetitive mentoring and filling in forms, which would make most of them - including me - run a mile.

"DUNE is an access point for all entrepreneurs to be able to give something back, and help without a big commitment on their time, and for all students with wacky ideas who dream of turning them into a business."

The DUNE launch event is sponsored by Flint Bishop Solicitors and the iPro Stadium. Early booking is advised - for more information and to book your place, please visit: http://www.derby.ac.uk/dune-launch
