About the exhibition:

‘Hearing Voices’

Think for a moment about the word ‘Voice’, what is it to
have a Voice? And, how does one, ‘Raise Your Voice’?
Your Voice, a Voice that belongs to You!

When thinking about the word Voice, I encountered the
word ‘Infant’. Infant comes from Latin and means,
‘unable to speak’, or ‘without a voice’. I then considered
other usages, i.e. Infantry: these are the foot soldiers
who have no say in what happens to them. Or, Infant: a
child who has not yet learned to speak the ‘Mother
Tongue’ not yet participating in the ‘Symbolic Order’.

Infantalises is a word I hear more and more these days in relation to education, society, culture and politics.
How do we become infantalised? Voiceless. Silenced.

Raising Your Voice is an opportunity to become involved with a dialogue; ‘speak your mind’; ‘express your opinions’; to have ‘a point of view’?

The photographers in this exhibition are finding their
voices, and we should take the time to listen.

No booking required.
