Masquerade Exhibition

Masquerade Exhibition Venue: Banks Mill Studios, 71 Bridge Street, Derby, DE1 3LB

Event date: Monday, 8 January 2018 at 10.00 AM
Running until: Friday, 26 January 2018 at 3.00 PM

This annual exhibition of upcycled and eco-friendly art is inspired by the all too often confusing definition of what constitutes ‘Eco Friendly’ and what you see isn’t always what you get and how this can be applied to climate change and environmental issues.

Eco Create is an eco and upcycling artisans networking group created by magazine collage artist Kirsty Adamson and indie dyer Charlotte Rhoades. The group is based in Derby but has members throughout the UK and they have an online marketplace and directory as well as an extensive blog packed with project ideas and interviews.

All of the artists showing during the exhibition work in a sustainable manner and are conscious of their impact on the earth. Several of the pieces are created from upcycled waste while others use traditional and low impact methods to produce their work.

Kirsty, founder and partner of EcoCreate comments: “For this exhibition we welcomed participants of varying skill levels, ranging from those who are just starting out to well established artists. Offering support and encouragement to those who wish to work in a sustainable way is a large part of what the exhibition aims to achieve.”

Kirsty continues: “Gold, silver and bronze awards are being presented at our launch event on Saturday, 6 January and the prizes will be chosen by a panel of judges. The awards themselves are being made by Keith Lynn of KL Metal Art and all three pieces will be made from reclaimed metal.”

The exhibition opens on Saturday 6 January with the launch event from 5.30pm-8.30pm; the exhibition then opens to the public weekdays, 10am-3pm from 8–26 January.
