About the event:

This collection by University of Derby graduate artist Caroline Lowe has been developed since her AA2A residency at the University of Derby and her previous solo exhibition at Banks Mill entitled ‘Fragments’.This exhibition examines the boundaries between photography and painted or a manipulated surface and our ability to interpret and make judgements on what we see. It also questions what we don’t know, can’t see and therefore don’t understand.

“I would like the viewer to question how reading the surface can distort the truth and how much we really know about the world around us if we only judge it by its edited surface.”

Caroline graduated from the University of Derby in 2013 with a first class honours degree and also won the Vice Chancellors Fine Art Award.

From October 2014 – May 2015 Caroline took part in the AA2A (Artists Access to Art Colleges) project at the University of Derby; which provides placements for visual artists and designer makers in further or higher education institutions across England supporting them with workshops, facilities and research opportunities; here she developed her Fragments project which she exhibited at Banks Mill in 2015.

Caroline is a former resident and now Affiliate Member of Banks Mill Studios, a creative hub of artistic talent based on the west side of Derby city centre. Offering 38 studios to creative businesses, Banks Mill is run and owned by the University of Derby.

The exhibition will be open to the public weekdays 10am-3pm by ringing 01332 594170 for an appointment time.
