About the event:

The Multi-Faith Centre is pleased to announce Terry Waite will be our guest speaker for this year’s Annual Lecture. The two hour talk, co-arranged with by Derby City Council, will include a refreshment break, followed by a book selling/signing.

Terry Waite first began his negotiating career in Uganda when he had to deal with General Amin for the release of individuals who had been imprisoned there. He successfully negotiated with Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Colonel Ghadaffi and Hezbollah before being captured and spending almost five years in solitary confinement.

During his lecture he will talk about his experiences of negotiating and captivity. He will also discuss the importance of humour and introduce his latest book, a comic novel. This will come as a surprise to many who would not expect such a book to feature in the context of a serious lecture.
