Team Derby Workforce

Providing high-quality, real-world learning experiences for students who are passionate about pursuing a career in sport.

Our programme provides current students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and develop skills for later employment.

Whilst working with us, you will have access to expert knowledge and support from industry professionals based here at the University of Derby. You will be supervised by a member of the staff team, and work closely with other professional staff, athletes, and students for the duration of your role.

Our opportunities

We offer various roles in a number of disciplines.

Gain applied experience in performance sport, helping to deliver support services to our Sport Scholars, Performance and Development teams.

  • Strength & Conditioning – supporting the S&C team in the coaching of athletes to develop movement quality
  • Performance Analysis – leading in the capture and analysis of match video footage for selected teams and individuals
  • Sport Therapy – assisting the physiotherapy provision through pitch-side support and delivery of rehabilitation sessions and screening
  • Sport Psychology – assisting the delivery of psychology support to the performance athletes through workshops and team sessions

Gain applied experience in sports development and participation, helping deliver our social sport and physical activity programme.

  • Umpires & Referees - officiating at our campus (intra-mural) leagues, Halls sport events, one-off tournaments and competitions
  • Social League Assistant - assisting the organisation, administration and on-the-day delivery of our weekly campus sports leagues.
  • Moves Challenges Administrator - helping create a calendar of challenges and events to increase our user engagement and interaction on the Moves+ app
  • Moves Data Analyst - analysing and reporting on key data to inform the ongoing development of the Moves+ app, programme delivery and impact reporting

Gain real-world experience, helping showcase sport and physical activity at the University of Derby.

  • Photographer – capturing quality images of sport and physical activity to be used for a variety of marketing needs
  • Digital Marketing Assistant – creating and scheduling engaging content for multiple social media channels
  • Research & Data Analyst – assisting with the gathering and analysis of participant data to support impact reporting

Gain applied experience supporting the day-to-day operation of our Sports Centre services

  • Fitness and Wellbeing Advisor * Supervising the gym floor, providing support with exercise programmes and delivering group exercise and circuit-based classes
  • Reception - undertaking key 'front of house' and customer service duties including facility bookings and membership administration

* Requires a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing, Premier/Lifetime Diploma qualification or equivalent
