Providing high-quality, real-world learning experiences for students who are passionate about pursuing a career in sport.

Our programme provides current students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and develop skills for later employment.

Whilst working with us, you will have access to expert knowledge and support from industry professionals based here at the University of Derby. You will be supervised by a member of the staff team, and work closely with other professional staff, athletes and students for the duration of your role.

Our opportunities

Gain applied experience in performance sport, helping to deliver support services to our Sports Scholars and Performance and Development teams.

  • Strength and Conditioning – supporting the strength and conditioning team in the coaching of athletes to develop movement quality
  • Performance Analysis – leading in the capture and analysis of match video footage for selected teams and individuals
  • Sport Therapy – assisting the physiotherapy provision through pitch-side support and delivery of rehabilitation sessions and screening
  • Sport Psychology – assisting the delivery of psychology support to the performance athletes through workshops and team sessions

Requirements

To be considered for the above roles you will need to be studying on a relevant undergraduate or postgraduate degree programme (e.g. Sport and Exercise Science, Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation, Psychology, etc) and have either completed, or be in the process of completing a related study module.

Gain applied experience in sports development and participation, helping deliver our Active Campus programme.

  • Sports Activators - planning and leading our social sport sessions for our student and staff community
  • Umpires and Referees - officiating at our campus (intra-mural) leagues, halls sport events, one-off tournaments and competitions
  • Social League Activators - assisting the organisation, administration and on-the-day delivery of our weekly sports leagues
  • Moves Assistant (Challenges) - helping create a calendar of challenges and events to increase our user engagement and interaction on the Moves+ app

Requirements

To be considered for a Sports Activator role, you will need relevant experience of leading one or more sports activities to participants of different ability levels and users groups.

To be considered for an umpiring or refereeing role, you will need to have a relevant National Governing Body qualification (e.g. FA Referee - Level 7, Netball Umpire C-Award) or be able to demonstrate significant experience of officiating the adult game.

Gain real-world experience, helping showcase sport and physical activity at the University of Derby.

  • Photographer – capturing quality images of sport and physical activity to be used for a variety of marketing needs
  • Media Assistant – creating engaging content to be used across multiple channels (news articles, vlogs, blogs)

Requirements

To be considered for the photographer role you will need to be studying on a relevant degree programme such as Photography or MA Arts (photography pathway).

To be considered for a Media Assistant role, you will need to be studying on a relevant undergraduate programme such as Digital Marketing or Media and Communications
