Derby Moves transition 2023

The way we support our students and staff to be active is evolving. In January, our Derby Moves offer will change as we transition to a new activity offer. Here is important information for all our Derby Moves users.

The way we support our community to be active is changing.

In January 2023, we will be launching a new UoD Active App from which students and staff will be able to access a variety of opportunities that include Just Play, Campus Leagues, Halls competitions and Active rewards to support an active lifestyle.

Derby Moves will remain fully operational to all current student and staff users until 31 January 2023. We will then transition to the new app and Derby Moves will close down.

We will continue to run regular challenges and competitions up to 31 January. You will be able to earn points for your activity which can be exchanged for rewards during newly created redemption windows.

New users can still sign-up to Derby Moves until Tuesday 20 December. (New registrations are not available after this date).

We have put together the following questions and answers section to help you understand the change and to provide users with key information on the transition.

Frequently asked questions

Moves+ is a stand-alone app that the University uses under license (Derby Moves). Our current license agreement is coming to an end in January at which time the way we support our university community to be active will evolve. We wish to transition our technology and consolidate key sport and activity programmes onto one, more versatile platform.

We are grateful for the experience Moves+ has given our students and staff but the new technology will be focused more on providing support to individuals that are currently inactive.

You can still claim rewards up until 31 January 2023 whilst items are in stock. There are limits and restrictions on some. Please check the rewards on the app for full details.

From 1 November 2022 you can redeem your remaining points in the following ways:

  • Moves merchandise items – claim in person on campus at one of our dedicated redemption windows
  • Food and drink items – redeem as normal at the café/shop point of sale
  • US Hoodies – redeem as normal from Keddies shop
  • Sports Centre Try and climb, gym and class rewards – redeem as normal in person at the Sports Centre

These are specific days and times in November, December and January when users will be able to claim Moves merchandise rewards onsite (backpack, grippy mug, water bottle, notebook, book token etc).

To manage reward claims more effectively and reduce the impact on Sports Centre Reception staff during busy operational periods.

The dates and times are:

  • 8 - 9 November 2022 - 10.00 am to 6.00 pm, Sports Centre
  • 30 November 2022 - 1 December 2022 - 10.00 am to 6.00 pm, Sports Centre
  • 17 - 18 January 2023 - 10.00 am to 6.00 pm, Sports Centre

There will be a number of redemption windows offered, but if you are unable to attend any, please submit a "request for Reward support" email to derbymoves@derby.ac.uk.

If you are based at the Chesterfield, Buxton or Leek campus please follow the claim instructions for the reward as specified on the app. We will then process any reward claims when they have been verified.

We are sorry that none of the remaining rewards meet your requirements. Unfortunately, we cannot offer any alternatives.

We will be running a Prize Draw. Any current and active users with points remaining on 31 January 2023 will be entered into the draw. The prize draw will be tiered according to the number of points users have left, with different prizes reserved for each tier.

The tiers will be:

  • Over 200k points
  • Over 150k points
  • Over 100k points
  • Over 50k points
  • 1500 - 19,999 points

No. Unfortunately, we will not be able to migrate users across to the new platform.

Yes, if you require further support to become active (e.g. you do less than 30 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week)

If you are already active and regularly achieving between 30 and 149 minutes of activity a week our new programme will not currently be available to you.

If you’re a student in halls you can take part in any of our inter-halls sports events and activities.

Our Just Play social sport programme is open to all students and staff at the university. No experience (or equipment) is necessary. A great way to keep active in an informal and relaxed environment.

The Sports Centre offers great facilities, including a gym, and a weekly programme of fitness and exercise classes.
