Student Community Ambassador

What is it

The Student Community Ambassador programme will offer eligible students 20 hours of paid work experience over the course of your first year at the University of Derby. This not only provides extra financial income but also boosts your CV.

You will have the opportunity to build your network and strengthen your employability with exciting real-world projects alongside our External Relations and Civic departments, with opportunities including social content creation, open days, schools and colleges outreach and research focus groups.

Who it's for

This is an exclusive offer open only to home students who joined the University through Clearing. This means that you received your offer to study with us from Thursday 14 August 2025 onwards. It is only for the first year of your study (not the duration of the whole degree).

The Student Community Ambassador scheme is not available to international students.

What happens next

Once you complete the form and your eligibility for the scheme is confirmed, we will be in contact with the next steps which will involve undertaking right to work checks with the Student Employment Agency. Once these checks are complete, work opportunities will be available on a flexible basis, with each student having the opportunity to complete 20 hours of paid work experience.

After your first year of study, you will be encouraged to apply directly to our Student Ambassador Scheme where further paid work opportunities will be available.

Please note that this is an optional programme – students do not have to take part. If you are eligible and interested, then fill in the form and we will be in contact with next steps.
