How to fund your Master's degree

A Postgraduate Master's Loan can help you fund your degree, with support available for both tuition fees and living costs.

What you could get

If your course starts on or after 1 August 2026, you may be able to apply for a government loan of up to £13,206 to support your studies.

How it works

• The loan is paid directly to you in three instalments
• You can use it for tuition fees, living costs or both
• It is not based on your income or your family's income
• If your course lasts more than one year, payments are spread across each year

Repaying your loan

You will only start to repay your loan once your income is over £21,000 a year. If you are on a Postgraduate Loan repayment plan, you will repay 6% of anything you earn above this threshold.

Am I eligible?

Eligibility depends on:

• Your age (you must be under 60 at the start of your course)
• Your course (a full standalone Master's degree worth at least 180 credits)
• Your nationality or residency status
