BA (Hons) Journalism Interview Information
Your interview experience is an exciting opportunity for you to demonstrate your passion for the course you are applying for.
What happens on the day
The interview day is a great opportunity for you to find out all about the course - and you will get the chance to ask us any questions you have.
Working for a broadcaster like the BBC, or for a newspaper or magazine, has always offered fantastic careers, but now with the growth of internet and online outlets it means there are more opportunities than ever before. Here at the University of Derby we work really hard to make sure that our Journalism degree equips you with the very latest multi-media skills to give you the best chance of succeeding in your chosen career. In the past 12 months, our graduates have found work in all sorts of great places including the BBC, local newspapers and a variety of websites. Our current students are gaining valuable work experience in radio stations, local newspapers, Derby County and running their own YouTube channels.
Although not a formal interview, your day will enable you to show us how much you want to be a journalist.
Interviews for this course take place at Markeaton Street, Derby Campus.

On arrival, please report to the Main Reception, where you will be met by a course representative.
Important note regarding parking when visiting our Markeaton Street site: There is limited car parking available around the Markeaton Street site and no parking available on site, except for disabled access. You may however be able to use the Pay and Display car park (car park 1) at our Kedleston Road site. The parking charges are around £5 for the day and the machine takes cash (exact change). The Markeaton Street site is approximately a 15-minute walk from the car park, or there are regular free shuttle buses (bus number 4 from our Kedleston Road site). Please allow at least 30 minutes to get from Kedleston Road to the Markeaton Street site.
If you are arriving by train there are taxis outside the station and the Unibus stops outside the station at regular intervals. Travelling to Derby by bus
When attending your interview, please allow plenty of time for travelling and parking as the roads around the University can be very busy.
Any special requirements?
Please let us know of any special requirements you may have, particularly if you have any disability or special needs, to help us to assist you in the interview process, eg any access or communication issues.
Please note: If you are bringing someone with you they will not be able to stay with you during the selection process, however they are welcome to stay on-site and make use of our wide range of food and drink outlets.
Is the Interview Day compulsory?
Yes. You will need to attend the interview before we can make you an offer on the programme.
What happens if I am running late on the day?
We know that delays are sometimes unavoidable so if you are running late on the day, please contact us as soon as you are able to and let us know your estimated arrival time. If necessary, we can tell you any alternate arrangements for your interview. In some instances, if you expect to be significantly late, we may suggest you book for a different date.
Can I visit the halls/campus?
Depending on the course you have you may have the opportunity to visit halls on the day of your interview, if this has been arranged you will be given more details on your arrival. If you attend a University of Derby Open Day you will have the opportunity to visit halls and see the different types of accommodation on offer. If you are made an offer to study with uswe also offer visits to halls as part of our applicant day experience.
