Wi-Fi - How to Connect

Our Wi-Fi service

Eduroam is the main wireless service for students and staff at the University, providing fast, secure connectivity across all sites.

Short for education roaming, it provides researchers, teachers and students easy and secure access at their own institution or when visiting other institutions that use the service.

To connect your device to eduroam, please follow the relevant instructions for your device:

Visitors from participating eduroam institutions can use eduroam at the University of Derby.

Can't connect?

Try downloading the Configuration Assistance Tool (CAT). It will detect what device and operating system you are running and put some additional settings on your phone.

Getting your device ready for eduroam with the Configuration Assistance Tool (CAT)

For the most reliable wireless connection, we recommend that you install a special eduroam setup file, known as a CAT file, on your device. The CAT file will make all the changes your device needs to connect to the eduroam service at Derby.

You can install the CAT file before you arrive at the University so that you are ready to use wireless from day one.

Download the Configuration Assistance Tool file for your device from the eduroam website and follow the on-screen instructions. For further instructions, you can also visit the IT Service Centre Knowledge Base guide: eduroam troubleshooting.

Remember to include @derby.ac.uk (staff) or @unimail.derby.ac.uk (students) in your eduroam username. For example, 123456@derby.ac.uk, or 100123456@unimail.derby.ac.uk, and enter your usual Uni password.

If you still need help connecting to eduroam after downloading the CAT file, please contact the IT Service Centre.  Visit itservicecentre.derby.ac.uk for ways to get in touch.

Your username (your student number followed by @unimail.derby.ac.uk) and password can be used at all participating eduroam institutions across the UK and around the world.
