Partnering for impact with The Devonshire Group video transcript

Hello, I'm Jane Marriott, I'm the Director of Chatsworth House trust, which is the charity that looks after the house, the art collection, the gardens, about 1,800 acres of land, but we're also part of the Devonshire Group and that encompasses the estates, the big property development business, the hotels, and many more activities that we've worked together with University of Derby.

And Chatsworth and University of Derby and the Devonshire Group have worked together for a number of years now, and it has been an incredible partnership. We are particularly interested in shared ambitions to really promote ambition, and to promote the wellbeing and the care of the students and young people and populations around us.

Chatsworth is not just a house, it's a place of creativity and community. The projects we've been doing over the past few years together have talked to the three urgent issues of our times: the climate crisis. So we've done everything from working with the students to do river surveys on the River Derwent through to very big, ambitious project developments around old chemical work sites that we're going to develop into new communities.

We've been thinking about health and wellbeing and mental health and how working with University of Derby, we can track through the Psychology department and their excellent research, the positive impact of the forest schools that we do.

And we're also looking at equality and inclusion and thinking about how we work the University of Derby, whether it's the Saturday Clubs, whether it's working with schools who have never, ever come into the countryside or come to a place like Chatsworth and realise actually it's a place they can have careers, that they can have jobs and that a place they can come and enjoy with their friends and their family and these are really important to us.

This kind of impact makes the partnership of working together with the University of Derby so special. We're not sitting in some ivory tower. We're not sitting behind a desk. We're making a real difference with the work we do together.
