The Health and Social Care Level 2 course is an ideal course for those wishing to work in a variety of health and social care careers. 

Throughout the course you will be trained and assessed in several different relevant subject areas to achieve a BTEC qualification, alongside this you will achieve 100 hours of work experience in a health and social care related environment.

To explore human growth and development across different life stages and to investigate factors that affect human growth and development.

You will explore the care values that underpin current practice in health and social care and investigate ways of empowering individuals.

You will investigate different forms of communication and how barriers can affect individuals within Health and Social Care.

You will learn and understand the importance of non-discriminatory practice in Health and Social Care

You will learn and understand the importance of non-discriminatory practice in Health and Social Care.

You will gain a first-aid certificate within this unit.

You will explore the different creative and therapeutic activities used in Health and Social Care setting and develop the skills needed to plan and implement these activities.

You will understand how children develop from birth to eight years, to understand the factors that influence children’s development.

You will explore the effects of balanced and unbalanced diets on the health and wellbeing of individuals.

How you will learn

There are also lots of opportunities to undertake enrichment such as learning British Sign Language, gaining a first aid qualification, and undertaking a food hygiene qualification. All of these have helped learners secure part time work in the sector during their studies. 

Careers

Students who achieve this qualification could look forward to a future career in Paramedic Science, Psychology, Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work or Professional Policing.

Entry requirements

GCSE's Grade D/level 3 or above including Maths and English.

Fees and funding

If you are aged 16-18 on 31 August 2025, you will not usually pay tuition fees for your course. Most full-time college-level study programmes are fully funded for this age group.

However, you may still have additional costs, including: travel to and from college, uniforms, kits, and equipment, educational trips, meals while at college, childcare (if applicable).
