Snow and ice

In severe weather conditions we will try our best to maintain services. However, in some conditions, side roads and back roads become too difficult to negotiate and we'll operate a service with a reduced number of stops. If you are in doubt you can find out by checking the weather page of calling the Snowline on 01332 597669.

Buxton has direct train connections to Stockport, Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Piccadilly.

You can also travel to Sheffield, which involves at least one change. For live information and timetables see the station website.

Cycling

Our Buxton Campus has facilities for cyclists to store their bikes free of charge in the sheltered bays which are located behind the old gatehouse.

There are showers within the catering changing rooms that staff can use after riding to the University.

Cycle security

We have a very good security record for cycling, however it's always good to lock your bike securely. We recommend the use of D locks and also recommend you secure any quick release parts.

Motorcycling

Motorcyclists are also welcome at our Buxton Campus. Motorcycles do not require a parking permit, and can be parked free of charge on-site. Motorcycles and scooters must be parked in the sheltered area within the main car park.

Staff car parking

Parking at the Devonshire Campus Buxton

We have very limited staff parking available at the Buxton Campus. It is currently all allocated to permit holders, minibuses, pool cars and blue badge holders. A very small number of new permits are allocated once a year, if there is space and only if strict criteria are met.

Where should I park?

We encourage all staff who are not able to use alternatives to the car to park at the Pavilion Gardens car park which is five minutes walk from the Campus. Permits can be obtained from High Peak Borough Council for a discount price. Parking here keeps our cars off the streets which helps neighbouring residents. If you choose to park on-street in the area please carefully consider the needs of the local residents and obey all restrictions.

Parking enforcement and security

We have a contractor who looks after security and enforces parking restrictions on site. If you park at the Devonshire without a valid 'DC' permit, you can expect to get a parking charge notice. Other University parking permits are not valid at the Buxton Campus.

Staff travelling from other sites cannot park in the spaces at the Buxton Campus unless they are using a pool car.
