Enterprise Centre

We would like to invite you* to the 2019 East Midlands Doctoral Network (EMDoc) Postgraduate Research Conference at the University of Derby, which takes place on 11 September 2019. EMDoc consists of nine universities who are keen to work collaboratively to share best practice, resources and insights into doctoral research across all disciplines. The EMDoc Conference is a great opportunity for you to discuss and promote your research as well as meet and network with other researchers from across the East Midlands.

In this year’s conference, you are invited to explore the theme ‘Public Engagement’ through oral and poster presentations. This theme was decided jointly by the EMDoc Network. The National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE) defines public engagement as a term that is widely used to 'encompass the many and varied ways university staff and students engage with others outside the institution'. This is a chance to reflect on how your research can be shared and communicated to different audiences. You can consider this theme within your work and reflect on how you can communicate your research with the public. This can include engagement with communities, external partners, collaborative research, participatory arts and outreach to businesses, charities, hospitals or schools.

During the conference, selected doctoral students will give ten-minute presentations or a poster presentation relevant to the conference’s theme. The conference aims to cover a broad range of perspectives on the theme across all disciplines. Submissions for alternative modes (eg performance, spoken word, etc.) of presentations are welcome. Please contact your institution to discuss.

During the EMDoc Conference, we will also hold a Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, where the winners of each university will present their research in three minutes.

*The conference is open to all doctoral students currently registered at an East Midlands University: Bishop Grosseteste University, De Montfort University, Loughborough University, Nottingham Trent University, University of Derby, University of Leicester, University of Lincoln, University of Northampton, University of Nottingham.
