Supply Chain 4.0: Concepts, Challenges and Opportunities, Prof. Guilherme F Frederico

Supply Chain (SC) 4.0 is one of the most discussed topics in operations management. Disruptive technologies have significantly transformed supply chain processes and brought many benefits to the performance attributes of supply chains. This masterclass will demonstrate the concept of SC 4.0, including its main technological applications. You will also learn about the challenges and opportunities that may appear when adopting a SC 4.0 strategy.

Professor Cho will review the rapid evolution of logistics and supply chain management (LSCM) in the context of Industry 4.0, showing the positive influence it has had on the economy, the business sector, and social activities. This dynamic growth has impacted both market and economic forces, leading to a trend towards globalisation, increased competition, and longer global supply chains.

In a globally competitive business environment, customer value is a key driver of competitive advantage. Professor Cho explores how making change to the strategic and operations processes can help create customer value. During the session you will also learn:

Meet your speakers

Prof. Guilherme F Frederico is a Professor of Operations, Supply Chain and Project Management at Federal University of Paraná, Curitiba, Brazil. He holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering from Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), as well as a BEng (Civil Engineering) and MSc in Industrial Engineering from São Paulo State University.

Professor Frederico has been working in collaboration with the Centre for Supply Chain Improvement at the University of Derby as a Visiting Professor and affiliated researcher. His research interests and expertise in supply chain management are related to maturity management, performance measurement, project management, knowledge management, strategic sourcing and the impact of Industry 4.0. He has published his research outcomes in international journals such as Supply Chain Management an International Journal, Journal of Cleaner Production, Business Process Management Journal, International Journal of Productivity and Performance Management, Operations Management Research Journal, Benchmarking an International Journal.

Professor Frederico is an area editor of Operations Management Research (OMR), Springer Journal and member of the editorial board of the Computers & Industrial Engineering Journal, Elsevier. He has led special issues on reputed and highly ranked journals as managing guest editor as well as serving as an expert reviewer. Professor Frederico has contributed to supply chain magazines (for example Supply Chain Management Review, Logistics Management, Celerity Logistics, Performance Magazine), publishing articles with practical insights. Prior to his academic career, Professor Frederico worked in strategic positions for more than ten years in large organisations (for example Bunge, Deere & Company). Prof. Denny J Cho is a Professor of Teaching Systems Engineering and Business Management in manufacturing, aviation, decision making, program management, supply chain management, logistics and transportation. He enjoys connecting principles and theories with real world issues and challenges and is working at the Logistics Department of the Kyrgyz State Technical University. Professor Cho taught at Wharton Business and SEAS Schools at the University of Pennsylvania from 2002-2006. He is a proven entrepreneur and programme manager with over 30 years of broad industrial management and technical experience in developing advanced aviation and IT technologies.

In 2012, Prof. Cho established Global Technology Solutions, which provides business management and technology consultancy and develops IT software products. From 1992 to 2011, Prof. Cho worked at the Boeing Company (USA) as Programme Manager/Associate Technical Fellow to manage and lead many technical projects. He has excellent business and technical acumen in many aspects of the enterprise value chain, including strategic planning and business development, proposal preparation, technical requirements management, multidisciplinary system design trade and optimization, testing and integration, supplier management, and manufacturing.

Prof. Garza-Reyes is an active industry researcher, helping organisations achieve excellence in their functions and supply chains. He has led international research projects funded by the European Commission, British Academy, British Council and Mexico’s National Council of Science and Technology.

Dr Simon Peter Nadeem

Alongside his role of Lecturer in Operations, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Dr Nadeem is actively engaged with the transport sector, providing analysis and consultation services to help organisations achieve excellence. His research has been published in high-ranking peer-reviewed journals.
