A Whole New World: Maps of the Derwent Valley Mills

The Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site was designated by UNESCO in 2001 in recognition of its importance as a place of industry for over 200 years. However, this World Heritage Site is not just about old buildings, but how people have lived in and used the landscape surrounding them.

In this workshop, we will be inspired by Derbyshire Record Office’s collection of maps of the Derwent Valley to make our own map wall-hangings out of simple materials (we will send a factsheet to you in advance so that you are prepared). A selection of images of the best that you create will be added to the Derbyshire Record Office’s collection to represent what the area means to us today.
