Event overview

A major arts venue in the heart of Derby is opening its doors for its flagship Open Studios event, where visitors can meet more than 50 artists, designers, makers and creative service businesses. 

As well as seeing first-hand how they create their unique designs and handmade products, guests will also have the opportunity to buy original artwork and handmade items directly from the artists themselves, at Banks Mill Studios.  From a stunning collection of bespoke jewellery, ceramics, glass art, photography, fine art and much more, this is an excellent opportunity to find the perfect handmade unique gift for someone special, or that one off piece of artwork for your home.

 Karen Holland, the event organiser said:

“We are delighted to once again run this very popular event that showcases some of Derby’s best creative talent in their studios.  “It’s a unique opportunity to support local small businesses by purchasing handmade products and original artwork from our makers directly, or commission a creative service, all of which cannot be typically found on the high street. 

“During the event, we will have an exhibition of artwork over five floors, be running a free prize draw and inviting young art enthusiasts to take part in the events engaging kids trail, ensuring everybody in the family can fully immerse themselves into a world of creativity.”

Artists and studios taking part

Some of the studios that will be opening their doors include:

• 2025’s Great Pottery Throwdown finalist Natalie Sims-Rees
• bespoke wooden keepsakes by Whimsy & Bloom
• streetwear fashion by Trapmass design
• Stitched by Alan who creates machine embroidered pet portraits
• upcycled lighting by Stage Left Lux
• stunning oil paintings by The Velvet Village
• Flamingo Glass and Mosaic Art who will be offering children the opportunity to make their own keyrings.

Explore our open studios during the following hours:

• Friday 28 November: 4pm - 7pm
• Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November: 10am - 5pm

Please note that there is no lift in Banks Mill so there is limited access to the ground floor only for less abled visitors.

Parking

Free car parking is available at the Enterprise Centre (Bridge Street) and Lonsdale House (Quaker Way). Local car parks that require payment include Chapel Street, Bold Lane, Brook Street and Ford Street. Pay and display on-street parking is available on Brook Street, Bridge Street and Nuns Street.
