The Work Health Hub and Derby City Job Centre would like to invite employers to a task and finish group tackling the growing concern of economic inactivity across Derby and Derbyshire.

Our country’s greatest asset is its people. However, the talents of too many are being wasted because of spiralling economic inactivity. The number of working-age people who are economically inactive due to long-term sickness has been on an upward trend since the pandemic.​ In the East Midlands, there are currently 177,900 individuals who are economically inactive, which is up 16% from 5 years ago.

There are countless instances where potential and talent is missed because people don't have the opportunity to thrive.

• School leavers are let down because employment support is not designed to support their transition
• 8.2 million people are locked out of work due to long-term sickness
• 9 million adults lack the basic skills they need to develop in the workplace
• Older adults struggle with chronic pain, and often care for elderly relatives
• 1 in 8 young people are not in education, employment or training

During this two-hour workshop, we will explore:

• The different types of support that employers may need when receiving people back into employment, including the help available via the Access to Work scheme
• The challenges in recruiting, inducting and retaining individuals with long-term health conditions
• The barriers to investing in previously economically disadvantaged individuals
• The return on investment to your organisation by recruiting from specific cohorts and benefitting from untapped skills
