Derby Campus Kedleston Road Derby DE22 1GB

As part of the University of Derby's Art-based Research in Dementia (ARD) series you are invited to another creative seminar.

'Photography and Storytelling' with Dr Alison Ward, Senior Research at the University of Northampton.

Increasingly, people with dementia are included and collaborating in research, sharing their experiences of what it means to live with dementia. Dr Ward will share a unique combination of participatory visual and creative methods as a way of supporting people with dementia to be included in research.

A selection of photographs showing outdoors, flowers, woodlands and wildlife

Dr Ward used photo-elicitation, poetry and storytelling techniques with people with dementia who undertake lifelong learning at a school in Denmark. The project aimed to understand the dynamics of these methods when used with people with dementia to explore if they could support the participants to share their experiences of attending the school. Participants took their own photographs of the school and of their home lives, and these were discussed during four weekly sessions.

‘…the picture tells the story while you have experienced it. It tells the story because I’ve been there…’

Tickets for this event are free however booking is essential.
