Project management skills are key in ensuring a project runs smoothly and is completed within the required timeframe. Critical path analysis is fundamental within any project and when applied correctly, can create efficiency and cost savings. Join us to find out how you can use this important technique within your own organisation.

Enscite is a partnership between the University of Derby and Aston University. The programme supports Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) within the aerospace, rail or automotive supply chain. Enscite is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

What is the workshop about?

Critical Path Analysis (CPA) is a fundamental part of project planning, giving you a graphical view of your project and helping you to identify the most important tasks that need to be managed.

CPA can reduce the overall time of a project by comparing a planned workflow with actual progress, but perhaps most importantly it shows the interdependency of tasks. A delay in task A, for example, will also delay tasks X, Y and Z.

What will I learn?

This workshop will provide you with the tools and techniques to understand how to identify and plan your project tasks and interdependencies, helping you save your organisation both time and money.

The workshop will take place on Tuesday 14 March between 10.00 am and 12.00 pm.

Overview of the CPA method

You will be provided with an overview of critical path analysis methods along with practical examples. You will learn how to identify the sequence of crucial and interdependent steps that comprise a work plan from start to finish. You will also learn how to identify non-critical tasks which although important, will not hold up any of the other tasks that could jeopardize the project if they hit an unexpected snag.

 Using Microsoft Project

Here you will learn the practical tools available to you to create a visual overview of your project. Microsoft Project will help make the process much easier, allowing you to track and amend your work plan throughout the duration of the project. You will be shown step-by-step how to use the software so that you are able to implement your learning straight away.
