Professor Michael Young
Michael is a Visiting Professor in the Social Sciences of Education. He is internationally known as a leading sociologist and educational thinker and is an Emeritus Professor of Education at the University of London's Institute of Education.
His main research interests are in the sociology of knowledge and its application to the curriculum with particular reference to the post compulsory phase of education and training. He has a continuing interest in the role of qualifications and is a Research Advisor/Consultant to the City and Guilds of London Institute, the OECD and the Centre for Educational Sociology, University of Edinburgh.
He is the author of many influential works including Knowledge and Control (1971) and Bringing Knowledge Back In: From social constructivism to social realism in the sociology of education (2007).
