In school and virtual activities

Our in-school and virtual activities provide key information about higher education and alternative progression routes. They have been designed to support attainment and help you people make an informed decision regarding their future. Most of these activities can be delivered throughout the year.

Virtual delivery platform

We can offer many of these activities virtually through the Blackboard Collaborate platform or Microsoft Teams. If you would like to trial the Blackboard Collaborate platform or would like more information, please email your Widening Access team contact.

Year 7 activities

Date: Negotiable with your Widening Access contact

Length of session: 15 minutes (assembly) or 1 hour (workshop)

Description: This is an interactive session that introduces five key reasons people choose to go into higher education. Students will have the opportunity to design their own society as well as finding out more about the halls of residence, events, and support available at university.

Year 8 activities

Length of session: 15 minutes (assembly) or 1 hour (workshop)

Description: This is an interactive session that introduces higher education and challenges the myths surrounding university. The session will provide an interactive activity for students to find out more about the courses available at university and an introduction to the new skills and experiences students can gain from studying at university.

Description: This is an engaging workshop which helps students to identify their skills and qualities. The workshop will help them to consider potential careers and explore various progression routes.

Description: This workshop focuses on supporting your students to look at ways they can build on their resilience, manage their mental and physical wellbeing whilst studying in school or at home.

Description: This workshop focuses on supporting your students to look at ways they can build on their resilience, manage their mental and physical wellbeing whilst studying in school or at home.

Description: This workshop focuses on supporting your students with studying independently. Students will learn top tips from our Student Ambassadors in a Q&A and begin to identify study techniques that suit their preferred learning style.

The session will give students the opportunity to find out more about the accommodation options, Union of Students, and finance and support available at university with the opportunity to ask questions.

Year 11 activities

Description: This workshop focuses on supporting your students to look at ways they can build on their resilience, manage their mental and physical wellbeing whilst studying in school or at home.

Length of session: 1-2 hours

Description: These sessions are designed for GCSE grade 6 and above in English and/or maths. They can be delivered as after-school sessions or during the day in the Easter holidays.

Description: This workshop will outline the Student Finance England funding framework and will also highlight additional potential income sources such as bursaries, scholarships and part time work. Budgeting advice and an interactive budgeting activity can also be included in the session.

Description: This session is designed to guide your students through the UCAS application process and provide hints and tips on writing a personal statement.
