In-school activities

Our in-school activities provide key information about higher education and alternative progression routes. They have been designed to support attainment and help young people make an informed decision regarding their future. 

Most of these activities can be delivered throughout the academic year at a suitable time for your school. Please negotiate a time with your Widening Access contact. 

Year 8 activities

Date: Negotiable with your Widening Access team contact

Length of session: 15 minutes (assembly) or 1 hour (classroom workshop)

Description: This is an interactive session which introduces higher education and challenges the myths surrounding university. The session will introduce accommodation, finance and support at university.

Year 9 activities

Length of session: 1 hour

Description: This is an engaging classroom workshop which helps students to identify their skills and qualities. The workshop will help them to consider potential careers and explore various progression routes.

Year 11 activities

Date: Negotiable with your Widening Access team contact

Length of session: 1 hour

Description: This workshop focuses on supporting your students with their mental and physical wellbeing but also provides advice on how they can look after themselves in the run up to their GCSEs, helping them to manage exam anxiety.

Date: Monday 3 April - Friday 1 May 2020 (dates negotiable with your Widening Access team contact)

Length of session: 1-2 hours

Description: These sessions are designed for GCSE grade 6 and above in English and/or maths. They can be delivered as after-school sessions or during the day in the Easter holidays.

Year 12-13 activities

Length of session: 1 hour

Description: This workshop will outline the Student Finance England funding framework and will also highlight additional potential income sources such as bursaries, scholarships and part time work. Budgeting advice and an interactive budgeting activity can also be included in the session.

Description: This session is designed to guide your students through the UCAS application process and provide hints and tips on writing a personal statement.
