Event FAQs

We only provide lunch on our specialist events: Health and Social Care Insight Day, HE Can Summer School, Raising the Grade and the Residential Summer School. For the rest of our events we ask that students bring packed lunches and we will provide a space for them to eat in. For older students (Year 9 and above) we often organise for the students to eat in the Atrium area where they can purchase food from our food outlets and experience lunch time as a student at university.

We encourage students to attend our Experience Days wearing school uniform as this helps them to be easily identifable when walking around the University. For some events, such as the HE Can Summer School and the Residential Summer School we request that students attend in comfortable clothing to take part in sports activities. If your students will be participating in a sports taster session, where they will need to wear comfortable clothing, we will make you aware ahead of the day.

For our younger years events (Year 8 and below) we advise staff to stay with their students throughout the event. On events with students in Year 9 and above we allow staff to make the decision whether they would like to stay in the sessions. You are welcome to pop out for a coffee and sit in the Atrium to catch up on work throughout the Experience Day. We encourage staff to make the event facilitator or Student Ambassadors aware of where you are going and your mobile number in case we have any last minute room changes or any issues with students. Please let us know if you require a map of the University site. If there are behavioural challenges, we may ask school staff to return to the workshop.

Yes. Please let your Widening Access team contact know if you require a parking space for the Experience Day. Shortly before the event we will send out an 'Experience Day final confirmation form', where you will need to provide details about the staff accompanying the students and the vehicle registration of your car or minibus. We use this information to inform our security team that you will be visiting the University. Our security team will advise you where to park when you arrive. We require any vehicle information at least 48 hours prior to the event.
