The best things about studying Sociology at Derby
The best things about studying Sociology at Derby is that there are a broad range of modules students can pick from. The amount of help we get from personal tutors and lecturers is very good, as they are always there to help.
However the chance to study abroad is one of the best things about studying sociology at Derby as not many other UK universities give that chance to students.
My study visit to Prague
I have really benefited from my recent visit to Prague. Meeting people from all over the world has given me such a great experience as I have been able to learn about other people and their cultures.
I engaged in many activities there such as a hiking trip which was part of the module “Landscape and Sociology”. While taking this hiking trip in the Czech landscape, I have gained many skills, such as working more as part of a team and the Czech culture, as well as boosting my confidence and getting to know more people.
Living in Prague for five months allows you to learn all about Czech life. As the Czech Republic is in Central Europe, it is very easy to travel to other countries in Europe, for example I was lucky enough to travel to Vienna and Budapest.
Enhancing my University experience
Studying at Charles University in Prague has enhanced my time away, as doing activities with class mates has made me closer to everyone on the Erasmus programme. Learning about different people from different parts of the world really made my learning much more interesting.
I would definitely recommend studying abroad in Prague. It really is a once in a lifetime experience and a great opportunity to take as you are able to meet and interact with so many people from around Europe and around the world. I had flatmates from France, Finland and New Zealand, which was really amazing.
