Making it Real events

Bringing your students on-campus is the perfect opportunity to open their eyes to higher education, and inspire them to pursue their future career. Our visit days are filled with practical activities and talks from current students and staff experts, so your students can get a feel for studying at university, and how Derby can help them make their dreams real.  

You can mix and match a variety of sessions on your visit day, including:

  • Academic-led masterclasses and taster sessions
  • Student Ambassador-led campus tours
  • Student Ambassador Q&A panel
  • Alumni talks, to hear from graduates on how they made their dreams real
  • Information, advice and guidance sessions 

We can work with you to develop your visit day based on the timings and content that works best for you. therefore, please get in touch to discuss your requirements.

This example is based on a 4-hour visit 

  • Welcome talk, including information about how to apply to university 
  • Choose from an Academic Masterclass in either:  
    • Criminology 
    • Law 
    • International Relations and Diplomacy 
    • Policing 
    • Sociology 
  • Extended tour of our facilities, including our Law Court, Custody Suite and our One Friar Gate Square site 
  • Choose a careers talk in either Criminology, Law, International Relations and Diplomacy or Policing
  • Student Q&A panel with current undergraduate students, to hear their experiences of studying at university

We have a range of talks and masterclasses on offer, delivered by our academic experts, to showcase exciting topics and careers available within the criminal justice sector. These sessions can be delivered virtually, or in your school or college, and link to Gatsby Benchmarks 4 and 7.  

Our academics are experts in their field with experience in everything from criminology, law, policing and social science. 

Our experts can deliver masterclasses for your students, to excite them about the subject and support the curriculum they are learning on their Level 3 studies.
