About the day

This exciting and interactive day will give Year 12 students an overview of Derby Business School, learning first-hand from staff and students what it is like to study at an internationally recognised business institution. 

Helping you to meet Gatsby Benchmarks 5 and 7, students can choose to take part in two of the following workshops:

Workshops

Business management and commercial awareness: How does it all fit together?

This session will question how various aspects of a business may be managed within the context in which that business operates, and how the influence of one area may have an effect on another. 

Accountancy is not boring!

This session will provide a brief introduction into the financial elements of a business. Students will then get the opportunity to participate and calculate profits for themselves. 

Marketing in a digital world 

Focussing on the digital landscape of the world of business and the internet of things. The session will also evaluate digital personas and social media advertising. 

Food and drink tourism in the UK: Seeing beyond fish and chips! 

This session will take a look at how the UK has become a global destination for food and drink tourism. Students will get the opportunity to discover what food and drink makes their region attractive, how it impacts the hospitality and events offer, and look at the history behind the region and its delicacies.

Further discussions

The day also includes a discussion from the Business School Programme Manager and Kier Group plc, a leading UK construction and infrastructure services company. Kier Group plc are planning and managing the build of the net zero carbon construction and operation of our new Derby Business School. This will provide a place where our talented students and expert academics can network with, learn from, and inspire business leaders and entrepreneurs.
