Creative Industries Taster Days

Wednesday 5 November 2025 or Wednesday 19 November 2025, 9.30am to 2.30pm

These exciting and interactive days will give your Year 12 and 13 students the opportunity to explore the wide range of creative industry-based subjects we offer. Your students will be able to find out more about specific subjects by taking part in taster sessions, showcasing what it is like to be a student with us.

Students will have the opportunity to see the facilities that those courses are taught in, based across our Britannia Mill and Markeaton Street sites.

Subjects covered

Across both days, we have split our creative-based subjects to allow students to get an insight into multiple areas.

Subjects on day one are more linked towards our Design, Creative Arts and Performance courses. Your students will be able to pick a taster session in the following areas:

  • Animation
  • Dance
  • Fashion
  • Fine Art
  • Graphics / Illustration
  • Photography

Subjects on day two are more linked towards our Film and creative media courses. Your students will be able to pick a taster session in the following areas:

  • Film
  • Media
  • Photography

Structure of the days

Each day will be structured as below, giving your students the chance to take part in two taster sessions.

09:30am - Arrival

10:00am - Welcome presentation and overview of arts at Derby

10:30am - Morning subject taster session (students will pick from several options)

11:40am - Lunch

12:40pm - Afternoon subject taster session (students will pick from several options)

2:00pm - Closing recap and evaluations

2:30pm - Departure

We kindly ask that, before the event, your students notify us of which taster sessions they would like to take part in. We will endeavour to give all students their preferred choices, and these sessions may be subject to change.
