Rehan Ahmed, LLB, 2004
The Derby LLB (Hons) was a vital stepping stone for Rehan Ahmed to set up his own thriving business specialising in personal and corporate insolvency.
Five years after graduating, he launched Kingsland Business Recovery, a licensed insolvency practice which now has three offices countrywide. As Director of the company he uses his legal know-how and focuses on areas including business development and finance.

He says: “The LLB was a fantastic way to mould my career. It certainly helped develop my research and investigative skills which I still use today. The discipline I needed to complete such a challenging course has also not gone amiss over the years.
“It was tough but I thoroughly enjoyed working my way through the three years. What helped was that the lecturers were down to earth and very approachable.”
Rehan said many aspects of his studies are unforgettable, particularly the mock courtroom cases. “The pressure and excitement of performing in what was almost a real life scenario is something I will always remember.”
Following his graduation in 2004, he decided to focus on a niche area of the law and secured a post at an insolvency practice. He established Kingsland in 2009 and has not looked back since.
“The three years were worth every penny. My degree was not just study based, there were a lot of practical elements to it. The knowledge I gained and the skills that I developed have certainly helped my career.”
