“and I will say sometimes words just aren't enough. We and other people will have things sitting in us somewhere here or in here.” Theresa places her hands over her body and then over her head to show the mind.

“that are really, really difficult to explain. Sometimes we just can't find those words”

Close up: Drawings hanging on a white studio wall, sandcastles and speckled egg sculptures.

“but actually we can find those words through the use of art materials and through mark making so really it's about making that unconscious conscious again and that can be for all the different client groups that we work with.”

“Part of the course is the fact that you do go on a a two-day placement and for me why placement is so crucial within this course is because it means that you can start applying all the theory that you're learning. For me, I'm (very) a kinaesthetic learner so to actually read through books and listen to stuff I  find really quite hard to actually absorb that but  it all starts making sense when you start sitting  in there and you've got a client in front of you  and it's like 'yeah that's that bit that I read in  the book, that's why that's happening.' So for me, it's putting all the theory into practice.”

Close up: Handwritten quote in black ink on orange speckled paper

“Really basically what happens is you get broken right down”

Close up: Theresa talking

“until you can build yourself up again”

Close up: A black and white pencil drawing of a plant with roots hangs on a white studio wall next to coloured paper circles that are pegged to some string, view of the table and chairs and various items on it

“and you have to do that because you have to be able to address everything that might be going on in yourself so that it doesn't you're not triggered by a time when you might be sitting with one of your clients because you've almost unpacked and addressed that in yourself. It's been the hardest most fabulous journey that I've ever been on.

Black Screen with a white ‘University of Derby’ logo appears.

Beneath the University of Derby logo reads “derby.ac.uk/arttherapy”.

MUSIC ENDS.

Video fades out.
