“The greatest benefit of the Accounting programme for me has been the vocational focus of the degree”
– Vicky Bostock
Vicky graduated with a BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance degree
My career at Lubrizol
I graduated in 2004 and I now work for Lubrizol Limited. My current role of Business Partner involves reporting financial information to the European commercial management of the Engine Oils business group based at our UK R&D site in Derbyshire.
Typically this includes monthly reporting on the business group income statement comparing actual performance to plan and investigating variances, detailed analyses of volume and profit trends for key products and product groups, and facilitation of the annual budgeting process.
I also work closely with the Global Finance Manager for Engine Oils and I have global responsibilities such as co-ordinating the recognition of technical joint development programs.
Benefits of an accounting degree
The greatest benefit of the Accounting programme for me has been the vocational focus of the degree which not only provided me with the technical skills to begin a career in accountancy and finance, but also allowed me to qualify for exemptions with CIMA. This has reduced the commitment in terms of money and time, needed to complete my studies and has in turn allowed me to take on more responsibility while still gaining a recognised professional qualification in addition to my degree.
Vicky studied BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance, and is now a business partner at Lubrizol Limited
