Shelley Jarvis - Marketing Joint Honours
The Derby experience
I felt Derby had so much to offer students in terms of support and student experience and also the development happening in Derby offering students opportunities after their time studying was really appealing to me.
I really enjoyed learning about Marketing at BTEC level, and knew that this was something I wanted to expand on in my future studies. I chose to study the course as part of the joint honours scheme as it gave me a more varied experience at University and gave me the chance to study two courses.
The whole university experience for me was a highlight! Being at university gave me the confidence I needed to go out into the professional world and sell my skills and abilities to the business community. I met so many wonderful people and made many memories that will stick with me for life.
The people I met and the experiences I had have shaped who I am today and I will be forever grateful. I look back on my university days now and I wouldn’t change anything about my experience - I miss being part of the university and coming to lectures!
The support from my lecturers at Derby was second to none and their willingness to go out of their way to support you was so refreshing and helpful. The tips and anecdotes that my lecturers gave me have stuck with me and I have applied them to my life and career. I have kept the books and notes I took at university because I know that I will always find uses for them.
