International Tourism Management student vlog video transcript

Tourism student Klara Visnjic talks about her placement experience in her vlog.

Hi everyone, my name is Klara, and I study International Tourism Management at the University of Derby.

After joining uni, I knew that I wanted to do a placement year. Also because, in the tourism industry, especially I believe, work experience is really important, and hands on experience makes you a lot more employable. So, for the first part of my placement, I went to my hometown in Split, Croatia. And, I also worked in a spa, but this time I was partly a spa concierge, and partly salesperson for a cosmetic brand. So, I was working in a shop. And, that job gave me some skills in negotiation and persuasion, as well as a lot of insight in the beauty industry.

After that, I went to their ski season, which is where I'm at now. I'm based in Les Carroz-d'Araches in France, which is a part of Grand Massif. And, I work in the chalet. So this is kind of different from what I've done before. This is kind of weighing towards hospitality more than wellness and beauty, which is another great passion of mine. And I want pursue both, so this was great that I could split it into different job roles as well.

If there is one piece of advice that I could give to you, is really experience as much as you can in the tourism industry, because I used to not really like hospitality, but now I've developed a great passion for it, and I really enjoy doing it. I enjoy every single aspect of it. And, I never thought I would.
