Introduction to Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a communication method increasingly used within health care settings. The skills employed can be used in a broad range of context such as rehabilitation, pain management, health care, criminal justice, education, addiction counselling.

This workshop will:

  • Introduce you to the underlying principles and foundational skills of motivational interviewing
  • Give you the skills needed to influence positive changes in peoples lives
  • Support skill development which can be taken back into the workplace

The workshop will be co-delivered by Judith Carpenter, International MI trainer and Dr Fiona Holland, Senior Lecturer in psychology and behaviour change at the University of Derby. Both are members of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers, an international organisation committed to promoting high-quality MI practice and training.
