What's next after applying through Clearing? video transcript

[A friendly voice over narrates accompanying icons that explain what to do with your application.]

If you recently applied to join the University of Derby through Clearing and are wondering what to do next, don’t get confused — just follow these steps and we’ll look forward to welcoming you.

[Early Access to Clearing:] If you applied before 5 July, you should have received a confirmation email within 24 hours of speaking to us. If you haven’t, check your spam folders, and if it’s still not there, call us back on 01332 59 2025. This email lists the steps for submitting your application through UCAS or UCAS Extra if you’ve already used your original university choices earlier in the year.

[Unwanted Unconditional Offer:] If you’re already holding an unconditional firm offer you no longer want, you’ll need to release yourself through UCAS Hub by selecting the ‘Decline my place’ button on your home page. When your new UCAS application reaches us, we’ll match it to our provisional offer and make it official. We’ll then wait for your results to confirm the offer.

[Previously Awarded Qualifications:] If you already hold Level 3 qualifications, such as A-levels or BTECs from a previous year, you’ll need to share these with us before we can confirm your place. Once you’ve referred yourself, send scans or photos of your certificates to myresults@derby.ac.uk so we can match them to your application.

[Securing Accommodation:] Once your Derby ID number arrives, you’ll be able to use it to secure accommodation with us if you need it.

[Student Finance England:] If you’re changing your university or course, contact Student Finance England to update your details so your funding is directed correctly for enrolment.

[Adding a Clearing Choice on UCAS Hub:] If you applied any time after 5 July and we’ve offered you a place, log into your UCAS Hub and refer yourself to us by selecting the ‘Add a Clearing choice’ option. Search for the University of Derby, choose your course, and confirm. Some updates happen overnight, so allow 24 hours for your application to reach us. On Results Day, you’ll need to wait until after 1 p.m. for the UCAS system to allow changes.

[Unwanted Firm Place Elsewhere:] If you already hold a firm place at another university, you’ll need to self-release before adding your Clearing choice.

[Offer Status Confirmation:] Following Results Day, we’ll be working through offers as quickly as possible, but it can take time for your status to change to ‘Confirmed’. Check UCAS Hub to see your offer status. Within a week of your referral, our Admissions team should have it officially approved.

[Enrolment Details:] Once you’ve accepted your place at Derby, we’ll email you all the details about enrolment, moving in, and starting your degree. This will include the date, time, and location of your course induction.

For more preparation information, visit the Welcome section of our website. Don’t forget to celebrate, have fun, and get ready for a degree that takes you further. See you soon.
