Students with Caring Responsibilities
Caring reponsibilities, whether they are for your children, older relatives or other family members, can place an additional burden on a student.
The pages in this section are designed to provide you with important information to prepare for coming to Derby and some advice about balancing your responsibilities with your academic career.
If you cannot find the information that you need on these pages please contact us in the Student Wellbeing Service.
Some students with caring responsibilities may also find our pages for Mature Students of interest.
Time off for carers
As a carer, it is important that you make time for yourself. This does not mean that you abandon the person you care for. Having some time off from caring can help your own well-being and that is good for both yourself and the person you look after. It may also be important in allowing you to focus on your studies.
You can find information on getting help to have some time out from your caring responsibilities here http://www.direct.gov.uk
You may also want to consider some of the advice on this site on how to look after your wellbeing, to give you the best chance of both completing your course and meeting your caring responsibilities.
