Tools for Researchers
Research plays a major role in supporting teaching and learning across the University.
The library supports Derby staff and students to conduct their research through our resources and support services.
Training and advice is available on a range of topics, from planning and carrying out an effective literature search and managing references, to disseminating your research and understanding its citation and social impact.
Support for Researchers
For guidance on managing your references, finding and using E-theses and specialist research material, accessing other libraries, making your research Open Access and maximising your research impact, consult the Support for Researchers Guide. This guide provides you with a good overview, and you can get more help from your Subject Librarian.
The University of Derby Online Research Archive (UDORA) is the institutional repository of research conducted by staff, and postgraduate research theses that have been awarded by the University. UDORA holds over 1,000 research items that are completely free to read. To register with UDORA and for help, contact our Repository and Open Access Librarian, Lucy Ayre.
As research becomes more openly available online, it becomes more difficult to record, find and demonstrate the impact of your research activity. ORCiD (Open Research Contributor ID) helps researchers to distinguish their research outputs from others of the same name. The significance of ORCiD is growing in today's research environment, and it is a key tool for researchers at Derby. Find out more...
This Research Support Charter outlines the library provision, services and resources to complement and support the University's Research Strategy, and to ensure that they are appropriate and sustainable.
