Funding for graduate internships

You could get £1,000 funding towards the cost of employing a University of Derby graduate on an internship, as well as a free recruitment service to help you find the right person. This offer is part of the Derby Talent Programme.

What can graduate interns do?

By recruiting a graduate intern, you could bring new skills and knowledge into your business, build extra short-term capacity in your team, or 'try out' a promising graduate you have already built a relationship with.

Internships can be a particularly cost-effective way to resource your smaller-scale projects, events, research or market testing.

Our graduate interns have previously worked in roles such as bid writer, graphic designer, events co-ordinator, game designer, CAD engineer, archivist, sales and marketing executive, software developer, scriptwriter, graphic designer, fashion designer, laboratory technician and many more!

What are the eligibility criteria?

To qualify for our Derby Talent Programme, your organisation must:

What is the process?

  1. We have an initial meeting with you to discuss the role and opportunity and how we can support you.
  2. We promote the opportunity and receive all applications. We target promotions to applicable courses and select the best candidates for your role.
  3. You select who you would like to interview from the candidates, which we can arrange.
  4. You select the best candidate and agree a start date.
  5. We award £1,000 funding to your company, per internship.

How the funding gets paid

Your company can choose how to receive the £1,000:

Option A

You will receive a direct payment from us once the graduate has completed their probationary period.

Option B

We fund the first £1,000 of the graduate’s salary through our own Student Employment Agency (SEA) here at the University. We can offer you a hassle-free recruitment payroll service saving you time and effort associated with hiring a new member of staff. If you decide to permanently employ the graduate after they fully complete their internship period, there will be no charge for this payroll service.
