Derby Internship Programme funded internships

Find out if your company is eligible for a £500 contribution to costs

The Derby Internship Programme began in 2013 and to date has placed over 200 interns in roles ranging from film production to community engagement. The programme is a fantastic way for students and graduates to access short-term, valuable work experience. Some employers also use the internship programme as a pipeline for future recruitment and many of our previous interns have gone on to secure longer-term employment where they have completed their internship.

The Derby Internship programme is managed by the Employer Engagement team and is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund to support SMEs in the D2N2 area to access our student and graduate talent.

SMEs eligible for the programme are entitled to one £500 subsidy to put towards the cost of recruiting a student or graduate.

What some of our previous employers have said about the programme:

“We have been thoroughly impressed with the University of Derby’s Internship programme… our experience proved to be an overwhelming success and has subsequently led to offering a full-time position to a University of Derby student”.

“The impact of our intern placement has been hugely positive. With the help of the team, we were able to identify the right candidate at the right time for our business and effectively manage a bottleneck in our studio in the process”.

“The clarity of communication in managing our expectations, through to the level of support in finding suitable applicants has been first class. And the team have been a pleasure to work with”.
