We are S.H.E.D.

Connecting the stories by finding the threads.

A community space to create, a personal place to share a stage.

To contribute a story, whether it’s testimony, urban myth, folklore, or forgotten history.

We’re here to give your narrative legacy.

For without stories, what are we?

Our voyage began six years ago.

A family of strangers with a shared vision and a plan.

Now a fully-fledged community.

We are a dialogue that’s open and honest.

A place to interrogate difficult subjects.

An authentic space.

Modest in size, but wild in ambition.

We’ve missioned nationwide, starting out in Derby with our hometown communities.

The city where our dream was born, our values were formed.

The place our genetic makeup was explored.

We’ve engaged with storytellers in 6 UK cities and 12 different countries.

Our Shedders have physically built our space, and taken our conversations through Notts, London, Belfast and Dundee.

We are an international network of storytellers invested in the preservation of oral histories.

We’re interested in stories no matter where they’re from.

It’s the voices of our communities that make our work so strong.

Our stories were always lived to be shared.

Whether written down and published, or aired over a cuppa in a shed.

We are a friendly touring chat on a park bench, bringing together strangers who didn’t know they were friends.

We are S.H.E.D.

Putting community first by providing a space, to remove the weary heads from the rat-race.

There’s a tapestry woven into the wood, stories and conversations invested for good.

An expansion of mental wealth and connection.

A platform to discover hidden potential.

We are way beyond the physical.

We are a well-trodden boardwalk.

We shed the preconceptions about personal stories.

Our work has helped change policy and inform key decisions.

We differ in our make-up by working from the ground up, not down from the up!

We create conversations to spark curiosity.

We’re not just on the street, we’re down your cul-de-sac or at your local theatre, park, museum.

We build, we provide a space for debate.

We pack down and we leave, but we never really leave.

We take away memories of stories shared, tangible connections left to linger in the air.

Our footprints remain conscious and alive, active in the communities we leave behind.
