Introduction to the S.H.E.D video transcript

Dr Rhiannon Jones, Founding CEO, S.H.E.D., and Associate Professor of Civic Practice and Head of Civic and Communities at the University of Derby:

S.H.E.D. stands for the Social Higher Education Depot, and it literally is a shed that we co-design and build with communities that's designed for having urgent conversations that need space to be aired and discussed in a safe space.

And we find that we can host these conversations through the playful way in which we construct, literally and metaphorically, a shed for the shedding of preconceptions about people and place.

We've got over 36 possible configurations of sheds now, and they've all been designed with stakeholders, funders, partners, local community members designing a configuration which will best reflect something that they want to showcase in that shed.

Sometimes those difficult conversations that need to happen around things that are wrong in society, we can help have those conversations in a way where it's constructive and then change can then be enabled.
