Mason Foodservice Limited is a thriving family wholesale business set up by the current owner’s grandfather back in 1945. Managed by the current director, George Mason since 2005, the company has expanded into fresh bakery items, ambient goods, chilled essentials, cleaning and packaging products alongside its initial offering of frozen products.

Why engage with Invest to Grow?

Mason Foodservice was looking for ways to increase turnover and, at the same time put the business in a more sustainable position. An opportunity arose and with Invest to Grow funding support, predominantly by way of a loan, the company was able to purchase and develop a large warehouse space opposite its existing premises, tripling their stock holding capacity and fulfilment ability. The new space needed considerable work to make it fit for purpose, in addition to new racking, refrigeration units and office space.

What has been the impact of Invest to Grow?

With a significantly expanded warehousing operation, this in turn led to enhanced bulk buying capabilities, with the resulting impact being considerable cost savings and economies of scale. The savings made have subsequently been passed onto customers and resulted in Mason Foodservice not only benefitting from an increase in client numbers, but also in demand from a wider geographical area.

Managing Director, George Mason commented “The investment has aided us to grow our delivery area, increase our customer base and offer more competitive prices. We now provide a more pleasant working environment for our staff with the improvements undertaken. This has not only helped improve staff morale and productivity but also supported recruitment activity”.  

As part of the investment, Mason Foodservice also made improvements to their existing facility, including energy efficient lighting, which contributed to a drop in overheads and a reduction in the business’ carbon footprint.
