Cellomatics Biosciences Ltd

Cellomatics Biosciences Limited is a laboratory-based Contract Research Organisation (CRO) based in Colwick, Nottingham.  It specialises in five areas: oncology, respiratory, immunology, inflammation and immuno-oncology.

Home to an experienced scientific team, who have expertise in diverse technologies and therapeutic areas, the company offers bespoke and innovative preclinical in vitro bioassay services to support its clients’ drug development programmes.

Founded in 2015, and originally based at BioCity Nottingham, by current CEO Dr Shailendra Singh, the company moved into its own bespoke premises in 2022 where it has continued its growth trajectory, with support from Invest to Grow (ITG).

Why engage with Invest to Grow?

Cellomatics’ main motivation for engaging with the ITG programme was to support the next phase of their expansion, enabling them to invest in new technologies and infrastructure that would enhance their preclinical assay development capabilities. The company were to particularly keen to strengthen their translational research offerings and increase capacity to meet the growing demand from international clients.

Having initially accessed support from ITG to invest in specialist equipment, their most recent project provided essential funding and the extra assurance to embark upon ambitious investment and expansion plans, despite a challenging external environment of supply chain challenges and rising operational costs.

What has been the impact of Invest to Grow?

The investment has directly contributed to an increase in productivity, accelerated project delivery times and the development of new service areas.  It has also supported job creation throughout the business and has strengthened the company’s capacity to deliver complex, high-value preclinical studies.

Dr Shailendra Singh commented: “Without funding support, the expansion would have been delayed due to capital constraints and supply delays.  ITG enabled us to proceed with confidence and was critical in ensuring timely delivery”.

The activity of Cellomatics’ aligns with the University of Derby’s expertise in Biomedical Science and our recently opened state-of-the-art Bioscience Superlab (Bioscience Superlab - Campus and facilities - University of Derby). Going forwards the company are keen to collaborate with the University in areas such as innovation, research and skills development.
