Welcome from the USPU Director
I am writing to you in my capacity as the Director of the University Strategic Partnerships Unit (USPU) at the University of Derby. As many of you will know, the Unit was launched in August 2014 following a restructure of the University and it has responsibility for overseeing all of the University’s academic partnership developments both within the UK and overseas. USPU’s vision is to “deliver inspirational and innovative partnerships that positively impact on the communities and other stakeholders with which the partners engage”. Executive responsibility for the Unit sits with Pro Vice-chancellor, Professor Judith Lamie.
Much of the work of USPU since its inception has been focused on auditing and evaluating the University’s current partnership activities and this has helped to inform both an International Partnerships Strategy and a UK Partnerships Strategy. Both documents identify a series of “promises” to our partners, as well as our ambition to “unlock the opportunities for deepening and broadening our collaborative activities to create further value for the students, employers and communities we serve”. In delivering on this ambition we intend to “facilitate the shift from a series of transactional relationships to the establishment of the University at the heart of a ‘neural network’ of partnerships that is founded on the principle of mutual trust and respect”.
I look forward to sharing the UK and International strategies with you and I look forward to working with you to deliver innovative, inspirational and impactful partnerships that serve as the basis for long-term sustainable partnerships.
Dr. Peter Dewhurst
