My winter bucket list for Derby

Long nights, short days, and a bit of a chill in the air. It is definitely wintertime. I have created a bucket list of things to experience and places to explore in Derby to help you make the most of the colder months.

Derby Festive Market

Derby Market Place is having a festive makeover this December with its Festive Market. You will have the opportunity to browse many international stalls on the hunt for the perfect gift. Stalls will also be offering a variety of food and drink options. The market is open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 2-24 December. Entry is free so you can save your money to spend at the stalls.

Treasure Island at Derby Theatre

One of my favourite things to do when the weather gets colder is enjoy a show indoors. Our Derby Theatre is showing a staging of Treasure Island. Do you have children? This production is perfect for the whole family. The performances have been fully integrated with British Sign Language (BSL) and captioning so it is accessible for all.

Buy a winter special drink from Blends

Did you know Blends is currently selling a range of Christmas-themed hot drinks? You can choose between an orange hot chocolate, eggnog latte, or a minted mocha. These delicious warming winter drinks start from £2.70. Why not grab one before heading to class?

Take a winter walk around Markeaton Park

Wrap up warm on a chilly morning and enjoy a walk around one of our fantastic parks. It’s a great way to get the circulation going and make the most of the dwindling hours of daylight. My favourite park to explore is Markeaton Park, which is close to both Kedleston Road and Markeaton Street sites.

Bustler’s 12 Days of Christmas

Bustler Market is hosting Bustler’s 12 Days of Christmas. This event is on my to-do list. There will be live music, a silent disco, karaoke, and lots more festive fun. This would be a great way to finish the University term, making Christmas-themed memories with your friends.

I hope you have a fantastic time visiting some locations mentioned on this list. Make sure to wrap up warm and go explore what Derby has to offer at this time of the year.
