Intermediate Apprenticeship (level 2)

An Intermediate Apprenticeship is the equivalent of five GCSEs at grade A-C. Our range of Intermediate Apprenticeships are available at our Further Education College, University of Derby - Buxton.

Advanced Apprenticeship (level 3)

An Advanced Apprenticeship is the equivalent of two A-levels. Our range of Advanced Apprenticeships are available at our Further Education College, University of Derby - Buxton.

Higher Apprenticeships (level 4 & 5)

Higher Apprenticeships are employer-led programmes focused on developing the skills particular sectors require. A Higher apprenticeship is a work-based course which includes the award of a foundation degree or equivalent level qualification.

Degree Apprenticeship (level 6 & 7)

Our degree apprenticeships bring together the best of higher and vocational education and provide the equivalent of a full bachelors degree.

We work with excellent local and national employers and professional bodies, including Rolls-Royce and the NHS, to deliver a qualification that provides you with both the hands-on and academic learnings you need to be successful in your chosen profession.

You will be employed throughout your apprenticeship, spending part of your time with your employer and part of your time at university. All tuition fees are covered by your employer.

About the Employer

Set within the beautiful surroundings of the Staffordshire Moorlands, Churnet View Middle School provides an excellent education for children aged between 9 and 13 years old. Our catchment covers large areas of the rural Staffordshire and Derbyshire countryside and the northern area of the ancient market town of  Leek.  As a middle school we offer a balanced KS2 curriculum and primary type experience, for year 5 and 6 pupils, and a secondary KS3 curriculum for year 7 and 8. We have the capacity to educate over 500 pupils.

About the Role

A vacancy has arisen for a Teaching Assistant Apprentice to join our team at Churnet View Middle School, with effect from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly and highly supportive team. We have a strong commitment to raising levels of attainment through a creative approach to the curriculum. We can offer a dedicated, friendly and hardworking team of staff and governors. As a school we place an emphasis on an enriched curriculum through extra-curricular clubs, first-hand experience and exciting events each term. Applicants will be required to enrol on an appropriate Level 3 Apprenticeship course. On the job training and time allocated for course work will be provided along with online learning and support from tutors. There are good prospects for the right candidate as the school has a good track record of employing apprentices who successfully complete their course and make a contribution to the school.

'Working as an Apprentice Teaching Assistant you will provide support to teachers in preparing for lessons and helping create a safe and enjoyable learning environment for all pupils. During Lessons, you will work together with the class teacher to support pupils with classroom activities and help to manage behaviour.
Excellent communication and enthusiasm will be key in supporting all pupils to progress, achieve and overcome any barriers to learning. You will support in all areas of the curriculum including literacy, numeracy and ICT within the classroom. You will also accompany teaching staff and pupils on trips and other out of school activities.
You will also act as a role model for pupils and be appositive influence on their behaviour and performance at school. So, it’s important that you demonstrate maturity and excellence in all you do. It will also be important to promote the ethos of the school at every opportunity.
Working Hours:-
37 hours per week, Monday to Friday usually 8.30am to 4.30pm Term time only plus 6 INSET days

Entry Requirements

English and Maths to at least GCSE Grade 4/C or equivalent
